GST Beneficial For Odisha

Sashi Bhusan Behera, Minister Finance has appreciated GST and said the State will reap benefits.

Minister has revealed that over 64 Percent of traders in Odisha have already registered with the Goods and Service Tax (GST), which was rolled out by the Union government on July 1 this year.

Mr.Behera was talking to Media Men here at the State Secretariat here on completion of one month of rollout of GST.

He said, the midnight roll out of GST has yielded promising results in our State.

Over 64 Percent of our traders have already registered till date. It is a remarkable transition from VAT to GST since July 1.

The left out traders in Odisha despite having VAT registration are in a defunct business section.

On awareness generation exercise, the Minister informed, “Wide publicity drive has been made by the State Government.

Through several media forums our departmental officials have been clarifying the doubts and queries on GST. Also through several seminars organised by us, we have made the clarifications.”

Mr.Behera said in Odisha, as the check gates have been abolished, the business class and consumers have heaved a sigh of relief as the transportation of goods has become quicker.

“Earlier it used to be delayed at the check gates. Delay in goods transportation and its extra costing used to tell against the interest of consumers earlier. Hence, GST will obviously help in our economic growth,” he feels.

The Minister said, another remarkable thing is that of cost of essential commodities has gone down following exemption of tax even though State has lost its income source, consumers have gained.

He said, that not only the traders under the composite scheme (above Rs 20 lakh slab) have registered themselves for GST, but also traders below Rs 20 lakh slab have expressed their willingness to register themselves.

Minister said that even though it is only a month of the transition period, both the general public and traders will definitely reap benefits.
