Strategy For Drinking Water

Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi today directed officials to assess the drinking water supply situation in different parts of the State during the summer season and take appropriate steps.

Mr.Padhi who reviewed the situation through videoconferencing asked the District Collectors  to ensure repair of those tube wells which have gone defunct.
Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan advised the Collectors to visit the drinking water projects personally and assess their efficiency while Panchayati Raj Secretary Deo Ranjan Singh advised the  officials to keep men, equipment and spares necessary for repair of tube wells ready within a week.
Mr.Singh told them that adequate fund has been provided to them for this purpose.
Notably, nearly 4.37 lakh tube wells across the State are functional while nearly 16,650 of 18790 damaged tube wells have since been repaired across the State.
District Collectors of Bolangir, Boudh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi, Kendrapara, Khordha, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Sambalpur and Sonepur informed that as much as 90 per cent of the damaged tube wells in their districts have been repaired and now serviceable.
Over 2300 new tube wells have been set up in these district, sources said.
The meeting also reviewed the drinking water situation in urban areas of the State.
Mr.Padhi asked the officials to ensure completion of setting up of the new tube wells sanctioned by the Government soon.
As many as 112 drinking water projects in as many urban areas are supplying 906 million liter water as against the required 1014 million liters daily, said sources.
The meeting also reviewed mobile network in the rural areas of the State.
Principal Secretary Electronics & Information Technology, Pradeep K Jena said as many as 14249 villages in State lack such facilities.
