Move For Hockey Carnivals

Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi today directed the officials to make preparations for the upcoming FIH Hockey World League Final- 2017 and Men’s World Cup- 2018 as Carnivals.

Reviewing the progress in this regard at a high level meeting here held in the State Secretariat here today, he directed to do detailing of each of the activity and monitor those till completion and commissioning before the schedule date.


Among the issues that were discussed at the meeting was raising the capacity of the venue Kalinga Stadium to 15,000 from the existing 5000 to accommodate more spectators.The utilities and changing rooms for practicing players will also be developed, said sources.

In order to avoid congestion on the entry point and internal roads of the Stadium, it was also decided to widen them, the sources added.  
The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) in collaboration with the Department of Tourism will ensure an improved Public Transport system and create special bus routes and trips during the mega events, the sources added.
It was also decided to organize international food festivals and international open air cultural programnmes during the events during which a large number of foreign tourists are expected to converge in the capital city.
According to the sources, Odisha Tourism will undertake branding of the event and develop a maskot for the events,   
The State Government plans to spend approximately Rs 89.5 crore for the twin event, the sources added.


Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan, Special Secretary General Administration Ashok Kumar Meena, Secretary, Sports and Youth Services Vishal Dev, CMD IDCO Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director Tourism Nitin Bhanudas Jawale, Vice Chairman BDA Krishan Kumar and ther senior officers participated in the discussions.
